You Are Smarter Than A Donkey
Remember, the donkey in your head has no direct means to get what it wants—the neocortex controls motor coordination. This is a very important point. You cannot voluntarily move your hand to grab the donut and put it in your mouth without your neocortex’s consent. That means the midbrain must manipulate YOU, through your neocortex, to get what it wants. It uses your thoughts, sees through your eyes, creates strong feelings, and through the binge voice and the slide show, it persuades you to use your hands, arms and legs in order to obtain its favorite foods. When it is in charge, you are basically reduced to a vehicle to go get food for it.
…. That’s right…. GO FETCH ____________________!!

Isn’t this true? Don’t you feel like a zombie in search of a fix? You don’t even taste the food after the first few bites, and the feelings come after you’ve eaten…when you’re full and disgusted with yourself. I think the best trick in town to gain back control has been developed by Jack Trimpey. Trimpey uses the following method, Addictive Voice Recognition Technique (AVRT), to recapture control of the language that goes on in your head—that unchecked battlefield in your mind where, right now, you are losing to the beast.
“IT” Wants A Donut
Trimpey states: Your Beast’s favorite pronoun is “I.” When you hear the thought, “I want a donut,” you may recapture “I” by adding a “t” to the “I,” which transforms the statement to “It wants a donut.” After you recapture the pronoun “I,” it will resort to the pronoun “you,” and you will hear it say, “You need a donut. You have been good and can have just a half a donut. You can handle it, just have some.” Sometimes it will speak for both parties, you and it, by say, “You need a treat, let’s go out and get some_____________(fill in your favorite food).” Recognizing the Beast’s use of pronouns can be very helpful in your decision to reduce or restrict your junk food intake.
When you recognize the binge voice and understand its primitive origins, it will quiet down, and then return later. While it may whine a lot, you must always remember, you are in control. Don’t forget, beasts have feelings, too. So, when you have been good for a few days, you may feel different or uncomfortable. It will start to talk to you about this, because your Beast cannot stand being deprived, and it will use your ability to reason to find new reasons to binge. Any warped logic will do.
In its sly way, the binge voice will attempt to destroy any resolve just made. “You can lose weight any time you want, but not just now. You can go overboard just a little. You’re not really out of control, you’re just hungry, and that means you have to eat something, so why not make it something really good? It’s time for something really good….NOW. Let’s see what’s in the frig.” So you, as the host body of this voice, as the retrieval robot, have a high-calorie treatie-poo. And you can hear the binge voice saying, “AAHHHHH, oohhhh, yummy, that does the trick. You deserve this from time to time. This is an important part of life, to feel so good this way.”
Remember, however, it is in your neocortex where the decision to move your hands toward the food, or your feet to walk away from temptation, lies. You want to choose the latter so that you stay true to your intentions. Walk into another room or space and focus your attention on something else. Feelings follow action. Once you move away, your body will settle back down, as well. Your pancreas will not produce any more insulin and your stomach will also calm down. You will notice a sense of euphoria that you have mastered the situation, and that is the finest result of the victory!
